Honesty & Pragmatism

I think there's immense value in being as pragmatic and honest as possible when dealing with problems. It's totally valid to do things for suboptimal reasons, or even just 'vibes'. But it's super important to identify when that's the case, and to be clear about it. The driving force for changing something is relevant for things like prioritisation.

Relatedly it's important to separate fact from opinion when discussing problems. It muddies the waters, and makes conversations harder to manage and less productive. It starts to lack [[20250728012913-alignment]], and then it becomes harder to extract what's important. Opinions are totally valid, but they need to be considered differently to facts.

This is a large part of why I ask "why?" so often. When you're clear about why you're doing something, it makes it easier to assess the urgency, reward, effort, etc. It also helps break down problems into more manageable chunks, and avoid things like [[20230411101852-scope-creep]].
